Durov Makes His Initial Appearance in Paris for a Court Hearing
Pavel Durov, the founder of the popular messaging app Telegram, was questioned by French authorities on December 6. The investigation, conducted by the Russian Investigative Committee (Следственный комитет Российской Феederation), alleges that Durov has aided in the distribution of narcotics and child pornography, although he has not been convicted.
The questioning took place at an undisclosed location and details of the session remain undisclosed. Durov appeared for the questioning accompanied by his legal team.
This is not the first time Durov has been detained. On August 24, he was previously detained at Le Bourget Airport in Paris.
In September, Durov announced enhanced moderation measures for Telegram in response to growing concerns about the spread of illegal content on the platform. He has since denied all charges against him.
Investigators have also accused Durov of refusing to provide information requested by authorities. The bail conditions include reporting to the police twice a week and prohibition from leaving France.
Durov expressed his trust in the French judicial system but refrained from further comments. The accusations against him are currently under investigation.
It is important to note that Durov has not been convicted of any crimes. The investigation into the accusations is still ongoing.
In a previous statement, Durov stated, "Telegram has always complied with the law and will continue to do so in the future." The company has implemented a number of measures to combat the spread of illegal content, including the use of artificial intelligence to detect and remove such content.
This is a developing story and more information will be provided as it becomes available. Stay tuned for updates.
