E-scooter rider sustain injuries amid road accident, driver of involved car flees the scene, individual who witnessed the incident is subsequently called upon to provide account
In the early hours of July 24th, a traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Haus-Berge-Straße and Endstraße in Essen-Bochold. The incident involved a 22-year-old E-Scooter rider who was heading towards Hafenstraße on Haus-Berge-Straße.
The rider attempted to turn right into Endstraße, but due to a narrowed road caused by a construction site, they ended up on the tram tracks and fell, getting injured. According to reports, the rider signaled the driver to keep a greater distance, but the driver allegedly reduced it instead, leading to the accident.
The fleeing vehicle in the hit-and-run case was described as a silver-grey BMW. The driver, reported to have long black hair on top and short sides, a black beard, and brown eyes with bushy eyebrows, was estimated to be around 30 years old. However, the name or identity of the driver is not disclosed or available in the search results.
Initially, the police were searching for the fleeing driver, but later investigations indicated that the reported fleeing driver likely did not exist. Video evidence showed the E-Scooter rider fell without external influence, and no vehicle matching that description was observed.
The Essen police are currently searching for the driver or witnesses to the accident. Tips can be provided to the Essen police under 0201/829-0 or sent to [email protected]. The responsible traffic division is still investigating the case.
