Earthquake strikes Parit Sulong in Johor, causing no apparent harm
Earthquakes Rock Johor: A Series of Tremors Detected by Malaysian Meteorological Department
A series of earthquakes have been detected in the state of Johor, Malaysia, over the past week. The most recent tremor, a minor one with a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale, occurred in the Sri Medan area of Parit Sulong at 6.39 pm on September 3.
The epicentre of the earthquake was located at coordinates 1.95 degrees north and 102.99 degrees east. According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department's myGempa portal, which was used to detect the earthquake, the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Prior to this, a series of tremors were recorded in Segamat. On August 24, a separate 2.8 magnitude tremor was recorded in Yong Peng, 28 kilometres northwest of Kluang. This was followed by a magnitude 4.1 event on Aug 24, followed by others on Aug 25, Aug 27, Aug 28, Aug 29, and Aug 31. Specifically, a 2.7 magnitude tremor was recorded on Aug 29, a 3.2 tremor on Aug 25, a 3.4 tremor on Aug 28, a 2.9 tremor on Aug 31, and two more 2.5 tremors on Aug 27.
Fortunately, no reports of damage or strong tremors have been received following the 2.9 magnitude earthquake in the Sri Medan area of Parit Sulong, Johor.
However, it is unclear at this time who the geological team is that is investigating the cause of these past earthquakes in Johor. The Malaysian Meteorological Department has confirmed the detection of these earthquakes.
