In the opening game of the 2025/26 season, ThSV Eisenach secured a triumphant victory over SC DHfK Leipzig in an exciting East derby. The final score was a resounding 23:17, with ThSV Eisenach taking the lead as early as the 46th minute.

The match began with a close contest, with the scoreline seeing a series of lead changes. After 12 minutes, SC DHfK Leipzig held a slight advantage at 6:5. However, ThSV Eisenach turned the tide in their favour with a strong phase that saw them take a 13:7 lead at the 23-minute mark.

During this phase, Felix Aellen scored five goals for ThSV Eisenach, while Fynn Hangstein added two penalty goals to his tally. Vincent Büchner and Max Beneke also contributed four goals each to the Eisenach team's total.

SC DHfK Leipzig fought back in the second half, narrowing the gap to 15:18 at the 35-minute mark. Blaer Hinriksson scored four goals for Leipzig, with three of them being penalty goals, and Franz Semper added another four. However, this was only a brief surge, as ThSV Eisenach went on an impressive 8:1 run in 11 minutes, taking a significant lead at 23:17.

Lukas Binder scored five goals for SC DHfK Leipzig, but the Leipzig team did not face any further pressure after ThSV Eisenach secured their win. The final score stood at 31:27 in favour of the home team.

With the victory, ThSV Eisenach's new coach, Sebastian Hinze, started his tenure on a high note. Hinze took over from Misha Kaufmann, who left for TVB Stuttgart, and began his role on July 1, 2025.
