Eastbound Hwy. 417 exit at Bronson Avenue to be closed for a duration of three months
Highway 417 Construction Affects Motorists in Ottawa's West End
Starting from September 2, 2025, several changes are coming to Ottawa's Highway 417. The construction work, being carried out by Kiewit Dufferin Midtown Partnership, will affect motorists for the next few months.
The most significant change is the closure of the Highway 417 eastbound off-ramp at Bronson Avenue, which will last until November 28. This closure is part of the construction on the Queensway and will allow work on retaining walls, drainage, concrete barrier curbs, paving, noise barrier walls, landscaping, and the installation of a median barrier wall.
Motorists in Ottawa's west end are advised to find another route due to this ramp closure. A suggested detour is to exit the highway at Carling and Kirkwood avenues, travel east along Carling Avenue to Bronson Avenue.
Another closure affecting westbound traffic is the off-ramp from Island Park Drive, which will be closed until October 2. The westbound on-ramp at Parkdale Avenue will also be closed until October 2, while the westbound on-ramp at Lyon Street will remain closed until November 21.
The construction will also impact the on-ramp from Holly Acres Road to Highway 417 westbound, which will be closed for the next three months starting from September 16. During this time, Holly Acres will be reduced to one lane in both directions.
The construction work is part of a larger project to replace overpasses and make operational improvements on the highway between Bronson Avenue and Kent Street. Motorists should expect delays in the area due to the construction, especially after the Labour Day long weekend as it will affect those getting to work and school.
Construction will continue until the end of October on Highway 417 between Island Park Drive and Kent Street. The existing infrastructure, including drainage, overhead signs, electrical infrastructure, and median barrier walls, will be removed and replaced during this period.
Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and allow extra travel time to reach their destinations. The construction on Highway 417 is expected to improve the overall safety and efficiency of the highway in the long run.
