In the heart of Germany, Baden-Württemberg stands as a hub for innovation and creativity. The region's culture and creative economy, a significant contributor to its economic growth, is expected to continue its leadership in digitalization and innovation through 2025.

Leading the charge are companies like maexware solutions GmbH, known for their digital success and IT problem-solving, and startups supported by Mätch VC, such as Gyde and Kausable. These companies focus on AI-driven solutions and microlearning platforms, respectively. Established firms like Drücker Steuerungssysteme GmbH also maintain a strong innovation reputation, emphasizing quality and error prevention.

However, not all sectors of the region's economy are thriving. The press market, for instance, experienced a significant decline in turnover of over ten percent in 2023, totaling around €3.5 billion. This decline is part of a long-term negative trend that began before the pandemic and is due to falling print circulations and declining advertising revenues. The publishing of magazines was the most affected sector, with a turnover decline of around €525 million.

The newspaper publishing industry also saw a decline in turnover, mirroring the trend in the magazine sector. Despite these challenges, the region's press market briefly experienced a slight growth in 2022.

The culture and creative economy in Baden-Württemberg, however, continues to grow, generating a total turnover of around 30.5 billion euros in 2023. The software/games industry is a particular engine with enormous growth potential, accounting for around €16.6 billion in turnover and a growth rate of twelve percent compared to the previous year. The visual effects (VFX), animation, and games sectors play a crucial role in the software/games industry.

The culture and creative economy in Baden-Württemberg employs more people than the pharmaceutical industry, energy supply, and the chemical industry combined. Interestingly, the proportion of employees in this sector was highest in the university city of Ulm in 2024, at seven percent.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism of Baden-Württemberg provides resources for citizens and representatives, with a press office and a contact form available on its website. Furthermore, funding opportunities in various sectors, including the press market, economy, start-ups, digitalization, artificial intelligence, rural areas, and culture, were highlighted in a press release on August 21, 2025.

As we look towards the future, it is clear that Baden-Württemberg's culture and creative economy continues to be a driving force in the region's economic growth. With innovative companies leading the way, this sector is poised to continue its significant contribution to the region's economy.
