Egypt pledges to prevent Palestinian displacement, intensifies discourse regarding Gaza stance

The Israeli offensive on Gaza, which began in October 2023, has resulted in a devastating toll on the Palestinian population. According to Gaza health authorities, over 64,000 Palestinians have lost their lives since the commencement of the offensive.

The offensive was initiated in response to attacks from Hamas, the Palestinian militant group in control of the territory. The Israeli authorities have maintained that their actions are justified as self-defense.

However, the accusations of genocide against Israel have persisted, with no response from the Israeli authorities. Egypt, Qatar, and the United States have been working to mediate a ceasefire, with Hamas leader al-Hajja involved in talks in Cairo.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, has described displacement as a "red line" and stated that it would mean "liquidation" and the end of the Palestinian cause. Yet, no new statements have been issued by Abdelatty regarding the current situation in Gaza.

Much of Gaza City was laid to ruin during the initial weeks of the offensive in October-November 2023. About a million people lived in Gaza City before the war, and hundreds of thousands have returned to live among the ruins since Israel ordered people out of other areas.

Israel now controls about 40 percent of Gaza City, according to a military spokesperson. Despite the destruction and loss of life, no new information about the response from Israel regarding the accusations of displacement as a "red line" and potential "liquidation" of the Palestinian cause has been provided.

It is worth noting that Abdelatty accused Israel of genocide, stating that what is happening in Gaza is "far beyond the imagination" and involves "mass killing of civilians" and "artificial starvation." Egypt has stated that it will not tolerate the mass displacement of Palestinians in Gaza.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to claim lives and cause destruction, with no end in sight. The international community is urged to take action to bring about a peaceful resolution to this long-standing conflict.
