Elderly Individuals Struggling with Cognitive Impairments: A prevalent issue among the aging population due to Dementia

In September 2025, CHS is organising a series of three free online seminars focused on dementia, in collaboration with famPLUS GmbH. These seminars are scheduled to take place on the 10th, 16th, and 23rd of September, leading up to World Alzheimer's Day on the 21st.

The first seminar, "Dementia Prevention - Because It Can Affect Anyone," kicks off the series on the 10th of September at 4:30 PM. This seminar aims to shed light on the prevention strategies for dementia, a disease that can impact anyone.

On the 16th, the second seminar, "Diagnosis Dementia - Understanding the Disease Better," will delve into the symptoms, disease courses, and treatment options associated with dementia. This seminar is particularly relevant as it comes at a time when CHS data indicates that about 7% of their insured individuals aged 65 and above were in medical treatment due to dementia in 2024.

The third and final seminar, "Demenzerischยฎ Learn - Communication with Dementia Patients," will take place on the 23rd of September. This seminar offers practical tips for understanding communication with those affected by dementia. Sabine Tschainer-Zangl, an expert in the field, will provide insights and advice during this session.

Each seminar offers a space for direct exchange, allowing participants to ask questions, share experiences, and network with experts, other relatives, and interested parties. Registration for the individual dates is possible at any time.

It is important to note that CHS membership is not required for participation in these seminars.

According to CHS data, women are more likely to receive a dementia diagnosis than men. In 2024, approximately 33,400 KKH insured individuals were receiving medical treatment for dementia (F00, F01, F02, and F03 according to ICD-10) and Alzheimer's disease (G30 according to ICD-10). Of these, approximately 3,000 men and 7,800 women were treated for Alzheimer's disease, the most frequently diagnosed form of dementia.

KKH Commercial Health Insurance, one of the largest nationwide health insurers, with around 1.5 million insured individuals, a budget of around 8.2 billion euros, and around 4,000 employees, is hosting these seminars. The head of nursing care at KKH Commercial Health Insurance responsible for events on the topic of dementia is Regina Plate.

Karoline Viktoria Mielken, head of nursing care at CHS, emphasises the importance of knowledge and understanding in dealing with dementia. She encourages everyone to take advantage of these free seminars to learn more about the disease and how to support those affected.

These seminars are a valuable opportunity for individuals to gain insights into dementia, learn about prevention strategies, and understand communication with those affected. By participating in these seminars, individuals can equip themselves with the knowledge needed to support those affected by dementia.
