Proton's Electric Vehicles Shine at Malaysia's National Day Celebration
Malaysia's National Day celebration on August 31, 2025, was a grand affair, with a special emphasis on promoting greener mobility. Proton, the national car manufacturer, played a significant role in this green initiative, showcasing their electric vehicles at the event.
The day began with a parade led by a Proton Saga and a Modenas Kriss First Edition motorcycle. The parade was a spectacle, featuring not only traditional floats but also modern electric vehicles. Among them were Proton's e.MAS 7, a second-generation electric car, and the Modenas MEV 1 and MEV 2 electric motorcycles.
The highlight of the day was the unveiling of the e.MAS 5, Proton's latest electric car, at Dataran Putrajaya. The unveiling was performed by the Malaysian Prime Minister and was attended by thousands of visitors. The e.MAS 5 was brought to the celebration to demonstrate its potential as a comfortable and practical option for daily mobility.
Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) is the company behind the e.MAS 5. Salawati Mohd Yusoff, the Chief Branding Officer of PRO-NET, spoke about the e.MAS 5, saying, "The e.MAS 5 is designed to meet the needs of Malaysians, offering a sustainable and efficient mode of transport."
After the conclusion of the National Day celebration, the public was invited to continue the festivities at the RIUH Merdeka programme. This side event, held at the New Millennium Monument site, ran for 30 hours, starting at noon on the day before the National Day celebration and ending at 6 pm on the same day. The event was graced by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, among others.
Over 100,000 visitors attended the 2025 National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya. The e.MAS 5, which was unveiled ahead of its official launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, was a major draw for many. The car was demonstrated to the public, showcasing its features and capabilities.
