Electric Ferry Model Candela P-12 Recognized as Significant Environmental Initiative
FlyTahoe's Electric Hydrofoil Ferry Included in Lake Tahoe's Transportation Plan
In a significant step towards sustainable transportation solutions, the innovative FlyTahoe concept has been included in the Connections 2050 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) for the Tahoe region. The FlyTahoe project aims to establish a potential solution to cut traffic, lower emissions, and protect Lake Tahoe from environmental harm.
Led by Matthew Clark, an innovative and forward-thinking executive, FlyTahoe's goal is to balance accessibility, inclusivity, and equity for both locals and visitors. The project aligns with the RTP's goals, including environmental protection, multimodal mobility, safety, system performance, economic prosperity, and infrastructure resiliency.
The FlyTahoe's Candela P-12 electric ferry, which has already been in operation in Stockholm, has been designated as a 'key environmental improvement project' in the Lake Tahoe Regional Transportation Plan. This ferry uses electric hydrofoil technology, allowing it to 'fly' above water, generating no wake, shoreline erosion, or noise.
The inclusion of FlyTahoe in the RTP indicates strong support for the concept. Meinzer, from FlyTahoe, expressed gratitude for being highlighted by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency in its Regional Transportation Plan. The shared vision of FlyTahoe and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is to preserve the beauty of Lake Tahoe while better connecting its shoreline communities.
Previously, the ferry had been listed by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) as an Environmental Improvement Project (EIP). The FlyTahoe concept has also positioned itself for future eligibility under the Federal Transportation Improvement Program (FTIP).
The FlyTahoe project is a step towards a greener and more connected Lake Tahoe, offering a promising solution to the region's transportation challenges while prioritising environmental protection.
