In a groundbreaking move, Porsche has announced that it will be the first car manufacturer to introduce an 11 kW charging system with a "one-box" base plate for battery-electric vehicles. This revolutionary system, set to debut with the upcoming Cayenne Electric, will be available in European and North American markets from 2026, with other parts of the world to follow.

The innovative charging system, dubbed Porsche Wireless Charging, will be integrated into the My Porsche app, allowing drivers to track their charging processes with ease. To initiate the charging process, the Cayenne only needs to be parked above the floor plate. A special view in the Surround View parking function makes it easier to maneuver the Cayenne to the optimal charging position.

The contactless transfer of energy between the two charging units takes place over a distance of roughly four to six inches. The charging process begins automatically as soon as the parking position above the floor plate is reached and the parking brake is activated. For added safety, the Cayenne reduces the ride height automatically when parked above the floor plate, and the charging process is automatically interrupted if interference is detected.

The Cayenne Electric, scheduled for a world premiere at the end of 2025, will also feature an innovative fluorescent paint, similar to that seen on the show car in Munich. Under alternating voltage, this coating emits light, adding a unique and eye-catching design to the vehicle. The dynamic camouflage pattern on the Cayenne is designed by Style Porsche, with individual paint sections deliberately left out and remaining dark. Five color tones, from blue to violet, can be controlled in a targeted manner.

Porsche Board Member for Development, Michael Steiner, emphasised the importance of ease of use, suitability for everyday use, and charging infrastructure in the acceptance of electric mobility. Convenience functions familiar from AC charging, such as departure timer with cabin preconditioning, are also available for wireless charging.

In addition to the 11 kW charging system, the new Cayenne Electric will also be available with an optional inductive charging floor plate. Porsche plans to offer inductive charging for electric cars, starting with the new all-electric Cayenne.

The Cayenne Electric prototype, adorned with a fluorescent paint demonstrating inductive charging, was showcased at the 2025 IAA Mobility in Munich. With its innovative charging system and eye-catching design, the new Cayenne Electric is set to redefine the electric vehicle landscape.
