New Electric Ford Explorer Unveiled: A Game-Changer in European EV Market

Ford has introduced its latest offering, the all-electric Ford Explorer, marking a significant milestone as the first passenger electric vehicle developed and built in Europe. The new model, assembled at the Ford Cologne EV Centre following a $2 billion dollar investment, promises to redefine electric vehicle (EV) standards with its impressive specifications.

The Explorer comes in two variants - the Extended Range RWD and Extended Range AWD models. Both versions offer a choice between single motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) or dual motor all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrains. The power output for the Extended Range RWD Explorer is 286 PS, while it is 340 PS for the Extended Range AWD Explorer. The torque for the front axle of the Extended Range AWD Explorer is 134 Nm, and both the rear axles of the RWD and AWD models boast a torque of 545 Nm.

Charging times for the new Explorer are impressive. The DC charging time for the Extended Range RWD Explorer and Explorer Premium is approximately 28 minutes and 26 minutes respectively, for a charge from 10-80%. The DC max. Charging Power for the Extended Range RWD Explorer is 135 kW, while it is 185 kW for the Extended Range AWD Explorer. The AC max. Charging Power for both the RWD and AWD models is 11 kW.

The new all-electric Explorer Premium specification includes a 10-speaker B&O sound system and ambient interior lighting, enhancing the driving experience. The vehicle also features SYNC Move connected infotainment with an adjustable 14.6-inch centre touchscreen, heated steering wheel and front seats, massaging driver's seat, and wireless phone charging.

The new all-electric Explorer can accelerate faster than a Ford Performance Focus ST, with 340 PS, and can tow up to 1,200 kg. The WLTP range for the Extended Range RWD Explorer is 602 km and 572 km for the Extended Range RWD Explorer Premium. The WLTP range for the Extended Range AWD Explorer is 566 km and 532 km for the Extended Range AWD Explorer Premium.

Adventurer Lexie Alford used the new all-electric Ford Explorer to set the record for circumnavigating the globe in an electric vehicle, visiting major cities including Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, and Sydney. Explorer drivers across Europe will be able to easily access and pay for charging at more than 600,000 charging points within the BlueOval Charge Network.

With its zero-tailpipe emissions, battery electric powertrains, and a driving range of up to 602 km on a single charge, the new all-electric Ford Explorer is set to revolutionise the electric vehicle market in Europe.
