Electronic Bikes Shutdown in Weingarten and Ravensburg: Investigating the Reasons Behind Their Unexpected Removal from Service
In a recent announcement on May 20, 2025, the insolvency administrator of Velocity, a technical partner for TWS, appointed to manage the insolvency process, revealed plans to resume operations of the e-bike rental systems in Ravensburg and Weingarten. The move comes as a relief for many residents who heavily relied on these e-bikes for transportation.
TWS, a company based in Schussental, has been working closely with the insolvency administrator to restart the E-bike rental system as soon as possible. Despite the current disruption, TWS remains committed to finding a swift solution for the E-bike rental system.
The E-bikes rental system, known as "tws.Rad," offered 190 e-bikes with cargo baskets, stationed at 24 locations in Ravensburg and Weingarten. The e-bikes were an essential part of the mobility transition, especially in times of traffic congestion and the ongoing climate crisis.
The unavailability of the e-bikes is due to the bankruptcy of Velocity, the technical partner that provided the software and charging stations for the e-bikes. The demise of Velocity is primarily attributed to challenging economic conditions.
The breakdown occurred without prior notice, leaving many users without a bike. However, TWS asks for the patience of its users as they work intensively towards a restart of the E-bike rental system.
It's worth noting that the current disruption in the E-bike rental system is not affecting other mobility services provided by TWS, such as e-car sharing, on-demand bus MOBI, and fleet services.
Many commuters use these e-bikes for short trips or their daily commute, according to TWS. The fixed-station e-bikes are considered important for alleviating urban traffic and promoting environmentally friendly mobility, according to the company.
The concept of fixed-station e-bikes is gaining popularity in the areas of Ravensburg and Weingarten, providing a convenient and eco-friendly alternative to traditional modes of transport. TWS hopes to restore this service as soon as possible, ensuring the convenience and sustainability of mobility in these areas.
