"Embracing Their Relationship": Fournier Beaudry-Cizeron, a fresh pair prepared to shake up the established order
The Canadian pair of Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, currently coached by Romain Haguenauer, are making waves in the figure skating world as they fill the rink with the theme of the film The Whale. Their costumes are a deep blue, adding a touch of elegance to their performances.
This new ice dance couple, comprising Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron, is expected to disrupt the hierarchy and have a significant impact on the Olympic season. Their performances are moments of great intimacy, yet allow the audience to observe from the outside.
Laurence Fournier Beaudry describes her new partner as her "cosmic brother", while Guillaume Cizeron refers to their performances as a "leap into the void". The duo's free choreography is beautiful, showcasing a lot of generosity and laying themselves bare to each other.
Their performance in Villard-de-Lans earned them 130.53 points in the free skate, placing them among the top ice dance couples. Only two other couples have scored higher: Madison Chock and Evan Bates (138.41 points in 2023) and Guillaume Cizeron himself (who has done better six times).
Romain Haguenauer, their coach, appreciates their performance and sees them taking space on the ice, sometimes even being ahead. However, he notes that there's still a lot of work to be done to dominate the world, particularly in the rhythm dance.
Training alongside Madison Chock and Evan Bates in Montreal, the new couple is embarking on a long journey towards the Games. Laurence Fournier Beaudry is awaiting naturalization to compete in the Milan Games (6-22 February 2026).
Despite their impressive performance, Guillaume Cizeron expresses uncertainty about the future, referring to their performances as a "leap into the void". Romain Haguenauer, on the other hand, is happy with their performance but not surprised, emphasizing the need for the new couple to leave no half-point on the table to aim for the highest possible score.
