Emergency personnel are now responding to a blaze at an apartment building located on Koitenhäger Landstraße.
In the heart of Greifswald, a residential fire broke out on Koitenhäger Landstraße on August 25, 2025. The fire department swiftly responded to the scene, finding that all residents had already evacuated the building due to the prudent action of a caretaker.
Upon arrival, heavy smoke was billowing out of the 1st-floor windows of a multi-family building. The fire was confirmed, and a total of 44 emergency services, including six police officers, were involved in the incident. Eleven people, including the residents and the caretaker, were treated by emergency services on the scene.
Fortunately, no new injuries or casualties were reported during the inspection, and the inspection of neighbouring apartments did not find any further damage. One person was taken to the University Hospital Greifswald with suspected smoke inhalation, and the hospital's patient count remains at one.
The affected apartment is currently uninhabitable, and all earlier evacuated residents have returned to their homes. Unfortunately, no one was found in the affected apartment. The fire was extinguished within minutes, thanks to the efforts of 11 personnel from the Greifswald professional fire department and 19 from the volunteer fire department, along with eight other emergency services.
At the time of the fire call, there is no publicly available information about who was the head of the professional fire brigade in Greifswald. The caretaker, who played a crucial role in the evacuation, is not among the listed personnel or casualties.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the quick response and effective action of the emergency services ensured the safety of the residents and minimised the damage caused by the fire. The community can rest assured that they are in good hands when it comes to emergency situations in Greifswald.
