In the United Arab Emirates, the Sharjah Police have taken a significant step towards ensuring the safety of school children with the launch of a new emergency alert system called "Maaman." The service is specific to Sharjah and aims to improve the response time and effectiveness of emergency services for school buses in the region.

The "Maaman" service allows a school bus driver or supervisor to send an immediate alert with a simple press of a button, transmitting the bus's exact location. This direct link between school buses and the 999 Operations Centre ensures that help can be dispatched quickly in case of incidents such as sudden breakdowns, accidents, or critical health situations.

Aghaddir Ali, a Sharjah police official, has emphasized the importance of student safety. He stated, "Every report involving a school bus is a top priority for us. Our goal is to ensure every student returns home safely, providing peace of mind for parents."

Once the alert is received, the Operations Centre contacts the bus supervisor to assess the situation and dispatch a patrol unit to respond on the ground. The Sharjah Police prioritise student safety, and this system is part of an effort to improve response times and effectiveness in emergencies.

The Sharjah Private Education Authority and Sharjah Police have collaborated to implement this system, which connects school buses directly to the 999 emergency call center. This connection allows immediate communication with the emergency response center in case of incidents involving school buses.

To demonstrate how the service works, the Sharjah Police have released a video explaining the process on their social media platforms. The "Maaman" service is currently specific to Sharjah and is not mentioned to be available elsewhere.

The introduction of the "Maaman" service underscores the Sharjah Police's commitment to ensuring the safety of school children. With this system in place, parents can have the peace of mind that their children are in safe hands, even in emergencies.
