Ending Arsenal's Winning Streak in Major Matches Belonging to Liverpool
Liverpool secured their third consecutive victory in the Premier League, edging out Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield. The English winger, formerly of Chelsea, was the standout player from both teams, with his performance playing a crucial role in the Reds' triumph.
The home advantage was utilised to perfection by Liverpool, who moved to the top of the table with nine points, one ahead of Chelsea who are in second place with seven points. Arsenal, on the other hand, remain in third place with six points.
The decisive goal came in the 83rd minute, courtesy of Dominik Szoboszlai's direct free-kick that surprised goalkeeper Raya. However, Liverpool's striker Gakpo's goal in the 60th minute was ruled out for offside, denying him the opportunity to celebrate.
Arsenal suffered an early blow when Saliba had to be substituted due to a muscle problem in the 5th minute. Cristhian Mosquera, formerly of Valencia, came on as a substitute for Saliba.
Both teams fielded new lineups for the match, with Mikel Arteta introducing 15-year-old Max Downman late in the game. Arsenal's replacement for the injured Saka was Madueke, who had the first shot on target in the 22nd minute, which was saved by Alisson.
Mikel Merino replaced captain Martin Odegaard for Arsenal, while Virgil van Dijk cleared the danger from his area in the late stages of the game.
Looking ahead, Liverpool will travel to face newly-promoted Burnley after the international break, while Arsenal will host Nottingham Forest, managed by Nuno Espírito Santo, after the break. The coach of Nottingham Forest, who will face Arsenal in the next matchday, is Nuno Espírito Santo.
