England's football team manager selects Anderson for the first time in a senior game, while Alexander-Arnold is excluded from the lineup.
England Squad Announced for World Cup Qualifiers
Thomas Tuchel, the current head coach of England's national football team, has named a 23-player squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.
The squad includes a mix of established stars and promising young talents. Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, who joined the club last July in a £35m deal from Newcastle United, is one of the new additions. Anderson, who ranked fourth among Forest players for chances created (37) and second for successful passes in the opposition half (645) and tackles won (56), will be making his debut for the senior team.
Another uncapped player to be called up is Djed Spence, who has impressed for Tottenham in their perfect start to the Premier League campaign. Spence joins the squad after a series of impressive performances, providing a boost to the English defence.
However, there are some notable absences. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left Liverpool to join Real Madrid before the Club World Cup, following the expiration of his contract with the Reds, has been omitted from the squad. Jack Grealish, despite a strong start to his loan spell with Everton, is also missing. Marcus Rashford, who missed Euro 2024 and was not included in England's latest squad, despite returning to Tuchel's setup in March, is another high-profile absentee.
Rashford's absence is balanced by the returns of John Stones, Adam Wharton, and Myles Lewis-Skelly from injuries. Lewis-Skelly and Tino Livramento are new additions to the squad from Arsenal and Newcastle United respectively.
The squad also includes regulars such as Jordan Henderson, Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze, Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane, Noni Madueke, and Ollie Watkins. Jude Bellingham, who was already ruled out of the September internationals due to shoulder surgery, may not be fit for games in October.
The England team will play against Andorra at Villa Park on September 6 and visit Serbia three days later. This will be an opportunity for the newcomers to make their mark and for the experienced players to continue their impressive form.
