Enhanced and Expanded Collaboration on the 'Secure Heilbronn' Initiative
Heilbronn Strengthens City Safety with "Secure Heilbronn" Agreement
Heilbronn, a city known for its safety, has taken another step towards ensuring the well-being of its citizens. On October 17, 2024, a significant cooperation agreement, titled "Zusammenarbeitvereinbarung 'Sicherer Heilbronn'", was signed by the Ministry of the Interior, Digitalization and Municipalities, the Heilbronn Police Headquarters, and the City of Heilbronn.
The agreement, aimed at increasing the sense of security among the city's residents, does not repeat the goal of further minimizing crime and related public disturbances, a task the city has been successful in for the past ten years. In 2023, the crime rate in Heilbronn was 8,186 crimes per 100,000 residents, below the average of the nine large cities in Baden-Württemberg.
Despite a 28.7 percent increase in total crimes compared to the previous year, Heilbronn still remains a very safe large city. This is largely due to the targeted measures implemented by the city and police presidium in 2023. These measures included increased police presence and control measures, supplemented by patrols from the municipal public order service.
As a result, there has been a noticeable decrease in public crimes, particularly aggressive offenses, as of 2024. The agreement aims to further strengthen and expand these positive effects.
The "Secure Heilbronn" cooperation agreement focuses on areas within the city center where residents feel unsafe. Notable measures include the prohibition of prostitution in the area of HafenstraĆe, an alcohol ban in the area of Flügelnussbaum/Stadtgarten, and the designation of areas around the main station and in the city center as weapon and knife ban zones.
Thomas Strobl, Deputy Minister-President and Interior Minister, emphasized the importance of these measures, stating that the agreement aims to increase the sense of security among the citizens of Heilbronn. Frank Spitzmüller, Police President, also expressed his support, stating that the agreement will continue the proven cooperation and keep the security interests of the citizens in mind.
The city of Heilbronn, under the leadership of Mayor Harry Mergel, continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of its residents. With the "Secure Heilbronn" cooperation agreement, Heilbronn is taking proactive steps to address areas of concern and ensure a safe and secure city for all.
