Enhanced Media Growth Strategy 2020-2024 Surpasses Anticipations
In the vibrant city of Hamm, a significant milestone has been achieved with the successful completion of the Media Development Plan (MEP) 2020-2024. This ambitious project, which aimed to modernize the city's educational technology, has been a resounding success.
The city has invested a substantial 13.7 million euros of its own funds, complemented by 15.7 million euros from external funding sources, for the implementation of the MEP. This investment has led to a transformation in the digital landscape of Hamm's schools.
One of the most noticeable changes is the acquisition of over 1,700 presentation devices, including projectors and TV screens, ensuring that every classroom is equipped with the latest technology. Moreover, all school sites in Hamm are now connected via fiber optic cables and equipped with modern WLAN and LAN, providing a robust and reliable network infrastructure.
The city has also modernized its central IT structures, moving towards uniform systems such as IServ and Citrix. As a result, schools in Hamm now boast an average device quota of over 70 percent, with many achieving a 1:1 or 1:2 equipment ratio. This means that students have ready access to digital devices, fostering a conducive learning environment.
Hamm's digital infrastructure in schools is now among the best in the nation, positioning the city as a leader in educational technology. For further details about the MEP, interested individuals can visit the city's service portal at https://www.hamm.de.
The city is not resting on its laurels, as it is already working on the continuation of the MEP for the period 2026-2030. The focus will be on maintaining the high level of equipment, making replacement acquisitions, and exploring new financing models. To plan and implement this next phase, the city has commissioned the organization KEB.
The achievements of the MEP were celebrated at a special event attended by key figures such as Karin Diebäcker (Head of Department for School Education), Marion Kötters-Wenner (Chairperson of the Committee for Digitalization and Innovation), Ingo Drees (Deputy Head of Department for School Education), and Mayor Marc Herter.
