Enhanced Mobile Connectivity in Ilm County via Telekom
In a recent announcement, Georg von Wagner, spokesperson for Deutsche Telekom, confirmed that the telecommunications giant is maintaining its pace in mobile network expansion in the Ilm District. Over the next three years, Telekom plans to add 3 new sites and expand 11 existing sites with LTE or 5G technology.
Currently, Deutsche Telekom operates 69 sites in the Ilm District, and this expansion will further improve mobile internet coverage in the region. In fact, the coverage has already seen significant improvements, with mobile internet coverage in Ilm District now standing at 90%.
The expansion has already begun, with modernized mobile antennas recently implemented in Amt Wachsenburg (2), Katzhütte, and Stützerbach. These improvements have been particularly noticeable along major roads such as A4, A71, and rail lines Erfurt - Leipzig, Erfurt - Nuremberg, and Leipzig - Nuremberg.
This expansion is crucial as the demand for bandwidth is increasing by around 30% per year. To cater to this growing demand, Telekom's mobile network in the district supports Advanced Mobile Location (AML) emergency call technology and the Cell Broadcast warning system. AML automatically transmits the caller's location to the emergency control center during calls to 112, ensuring quicker response times in emergencies. On the other hand, Cell Broadcast sends danger alerts to mobile phones in the affected cell, for example, in case of large fires, gas explosions, or floods.
Deutsche Telekom's commitment to safety is evident, as emergency calls and warnings are possible at all the newly enhanced sites in Ilm District. Furthermore, 98% of households in the district now have access to fast mobile networks, ensuring that the majority of residents can benefit from these improvements.
