Enhanced safety features introduced by inDrive as preparations for the holiday season accelerate

In the bustling cities of South Africa, a global mobility and urban services platform, inDrive, has recently expanded its operations. The company, known for its popular app, has now launched services in seven additional cities, bringing the total to 16.

The new cities include Bloemfontein, Mahikeng, Emalahleni (Witbank), Kimberley, George, Vereeniging, and Potchefstroom. This expansion follows inDrive's initial entry into South Africa in 2023, where it established operations in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. Today, the platform operates in 749 cities across 46 countries, with over 200 million app downloads worldwide.

Beyond ride-hailing, inDrive offers a growing range of urban services. These include intercity transportation, freight delivery, task assistance, and courier services. The company's commitment to improving road safety and enhancing the e-hailing experience is evident in its latest features.

One such feature is the in-app call function, which allows users to connect directly within the app, without exchanging personal phone numbers. This addition is part of inDrive's efforts to ensure privacy and safety for its users. Both VoIP and GSM communication options are available, with phone masking applied for added security.

For enhanced safety, inDrive has also integrated safety tips within the app, offering practical advice for staying safe during trips. Danger Zone Indicators alert users for potentially unsafe areas, while device bans are enforced for violators or those posing safety risks.

Ride Sharing, another feature, allows users to share real-time ride details with trusted contacts. Driver Verification includes liveness checks and weekly photo verifications to ensure driver identity. Users can also choose drivers or passengers based on ratings and reviews.

As the festive season approaches, road safety becomes even more crucial. In the 2023/24 festive period, the Department of Transport reported 1,184 fatalities. In response, inDrive's non-profit arm, inVision, focuses on community programs that empower education, sports, arts, sciences, gender equality, and other essential initiatives, aiming to positively impact the lives of one billion people by 2030.
