Firefighters of Malaysia's Airports Gear Up for 2026 with Intensive Training

In preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS) has been ensuring that every member and officer complies with the regulations set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The 14th AFRS Training Graduation Parade, held at Melaka International Airport (LTAM) Batu Berendam, marked the culmination of 23 weeks of intensive training for 159 trainees.

The training program, an important element in the preparations for the upcoming year, started on April 15. The parade was officiated by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, and headed by Managing Director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

MAHB is committed to strengthening emergency management preparedness at its airport network, which, as of July 2025, has catered to nearly 60 million passengers. Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani emphasized the importance of compliance with the Civil Aviation (Aerodrome Operations) Regulations 2016 for maintaining Malaysia's airports at the highest level in emergency management and operations.

The AFRS, considered the frontline of flight operation safety, is required to act quickly, be knowledgeable, disciplined, and courageous in handling emergencies. The training program tests physical and mental endurance, builds discipline, camaraderie, spiritual strength, and provides technical knowledge and understanding of civil aviation laws in line with international standards.

Confidence in emergency management preparedness is a crucial element for providing a positive experience for every visitor to the country. The level of preparedness is the foundation of the world's confidence in Malaysia's airports. AFRS is also the heart of airport safety.

Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani reiterated that the AFRS is a vital part of the airport network, playing a crucial role in ensuring the safety of passengers and staff. He commended the trainees for their dedication and hard work throughout the training program and wished them success in their future duties.

With the successful completion of the training program, the AFRS is well-equipped to face any challenges that may arise during Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and beyond, maintaining the high standards of safety and preparedness that Malaysia's airports are known for.
