Beiersdorf Announces New Innovation Center in Hamburg

German skincare giant Beiersdorf is set to invest €139 million in a new Innovation Center on its Hamburg headquarters campus, scheduled to open in 2028. This follows a series of significant investments in the city, including a Technology Center built for €60 million in 2020 and the opening of the Beiersdorf Campus in 2023, which cost €250 million.

The Innovation Center will span 14,000 square meters and focus on interdisciplinary development of products and technologies, integrating research, development, production, marketing, and sales. It aims to digitalize processes, use artificial intelligence, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration to shorten development cycles and enable faster predictions.

Beiersdorf's CEO, Vincent Warnery, outlines the "Win with Care" strategy, emphasizing the center's role in bolstering global innovation capabilities. The Innovation Center will also facilitate the production of small batches and test samples on-site, contributing to a more agile, faster, and sustainable process from idea to finished product.

In addition to Beiersdorf's internal teams, external partners such as startups, industry players, universities, and labs will be integrated into the development process. Beiersdorf includes partners like Sun Chemical, Trinseo, AGC, Sika, Clariant, Syngenta, and technology partners like Waldner and essentim in its innovation process, forming a trusted ecosystem to support smart lab integration and innovation.

The new Innovation Center is expected to strengthen networks in the Hamburg region and enhance Hamburg's life science profile. Beiersdorf has been recognized for its sustainability engagement in various sectors and the Innovation Center will continue this commitment, using data-driven skin analyses and digitalized processes to create more sustainable and effective skincare solutions.
