Enthusiastic students of a Queens science teacher participate in cheering section during NYC Marathon
Teacher Andrea Feldman to Run TCS New York City Marathon
Andrea Feldman, a high school multisport athlete and teacher with over a decade of experience, is set to participate in the TCS New York City Marathon. This will be Feldman's first-ever marathon, and she is eager to pass along the health benefits of running to her students.
Feldman, who currently teaches earth, physical, and life science to her seventh-graders and life science to her honors eighth-grade students at an unspecified location, is incorporating her marathon participation into her teaching. She is giving students incentives for turning in homework and providing a platform for them to establish their own fitness goals.
More than 500 teachers applied for the TCS program, and Feldman was among the 50 selected. The TCS program, focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education, offered a special entry for teachers under the theme "Empowering teachers. Inspiring students."
Feldman's students are excited about her participation in the marathon. Approximately 50 of her seventh- and eighth-grade science students from the Joseph Pulitzer Magnet School/I.S. 145 in Jackson Heights will attend the marathon as part of an organized field trip.
Feldman's family will also be there to support her. Her parents, Billy and Alison Feldman, will attend the marathon, along with her sister Lisa Schwartz and her husband David. Fiance Sean Marx plans to meet Feldman at the finish line of the marathon.

Despite the challenges of training for a marathon while teaching, Feldman enjoys her job. She finds joy in inspiring her students and is looking forward to the marathon as an opportunity to motivate them to lead active, healthy lives.
