Battlefield 6, the latest instalment in the iconic Battlefield series, is set to make a comeback after the controversy surrounding Battlefield 2042. The highly anticipated game, developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts, is scheduled for release on October 10 across various platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (Steam, EA app, Epic Games), and PS5.

In preparation for its release, DICE has announced that sign-ups for Battlefield Labs playtests are now open once again. These playtests will focus on refining various aspects of the game, such as weapon improvements, large-scale vehicular combat, and gadget balancing, with a focus on maintaining balance across different map sizes.

Battlefield Labs will also feature a server browser, specifically designed for Battlefield 6's Portal. This browser allows users to search for community servers and filter them based on modes, maps, region, and more. Players can even search for servers with specific settings using shortcodes.

The server browser is part of the ongoing development of community-run servers, which is currently considered a work in progress. However, some players have expressed frustration that the Portal server browser solution does not cater to a full server browser for official servers.

The Battlefield Labs sessions will provide an opportunity to test improvements in various stages of production, ranging from alpha state to more polished builds. This could result in less stable gameplay during these tests.

Preorders for Battlefield 6 are available now across all platforms. The Standard Edition of the game will retail for $69.99. DICE has also pledged to conduct further Battlefield Labs playtests before the game's launch on October 10.

The game was showcased to the public with an explosive multiplayer reveal, receiving high praise. An Open Beta in August even managed to surpass Call of Duty's player count record on Steam. One of the standout features of Battlefield 6 is its larger, more open stages, with an emphasis on vehicle play. This includes the remake of Battlefield 3's Operation Firestorm and Mirak Valley.

EA has confirmed that they will not sell Battlefield 6 for $80, as was the case with Battlefield 2042. The developer's goal is to validate gameplay balance on these new locations and compare it with previously tested maps.

Registration for the upcoming Battlefield Labs test phases is required in advance, but the specifics of who can register have not been publicly disclosed. Interested players must register beforehand to participate in the Battlefield Labs after the second beta phase.

Players can also look forward to testing player-hosted servers during these Battlefield Labs sessions. This is a significant step towards engaging the community and ensuring a balanced and enjoyable gaming experience for all.
