Epstein's Associate, Maxwell, Affirms to US Justice Department That He Had No Illustrious Client Roster for Epstein
In a recent prison interview, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence for her role in a scheme to exploit and sexually abuse several minors along with Jeffrey Epstein, shared her perspective on her relationships with Epstein and some high-profile figures.
Maxwell described her interactions with former President Donald Trump as cordial and gentlemanly. She opined that the friendship between Trump and Epstein was more social in nature. Maxwell also praised Trump for his achievement in becoming president, stating that she had met him through her father in the 1990s.
Regarding former President Bill Clinton, Maxwell stated that she never saw him do anything inappropriate during her association with Epstein.
Maxwell met Epstein in 1991 in Epstein's office in New York at the request of a friend. After Maxwell's father's death, Epstein asked her to help him find a home in New York and decorate it. A year later, Maxwell began working for Epstein for a salary and they frequently traveled to the homes Epstein had in Florida and Ohio.
During a two-day hearing at the U.S. Department of Justice, Maxwell mentioned witnessing inappropriate behaviour involving Epstein but did not name specific individuals publicly. However, in her recent prison interview, Maxwell clarified that she was not there to defend Epstein and did not participate in the acts he was accused of.
Maxwell also asserted that Epstein did not have a list of clients. This statement contradicts the Department of Justice's previous assertion that there were no such documents related to Epstein's clients. The Wall Street Journal, however, has asserted that there were many names on documents related to Epstein's clients.
Maxwell's statements were made to U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche during the interrogation in the prison in Florida where she was being held. Maxwell's interview transcript was delivered to a Congressional Committee investigating the case of Jeffrey Epstein.
Maxwell stated that she did not have a fair trial and was not successful in her appeal of her conviction. She also clarified that she was not a witness to Epstein abusing minors.
Before the interview, Maxwell was informed that she only had limited immunity and that lying would result in charges. Maxwell's statements, therefore, were made under the threat of potential legal consequences for any falsehoods.
The House Oversight Committee is reviewing the Epstein case and has received thousands of pages of documents, including Maxwell's interview transcript. The committee's investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Epstein's crimes and the potential complicity of other individuals.
Maxwell found Epstein attractive and they became friends after their first meeting. However, the nature of their relationship and Maxwell's role in Epstein's crimes remain subjects of ongoing investigation and debate.
