Equestrian PDRM Cavalry impresses spectators with an impeccable equestrian display during the National Day parade.

The National Day celebration in Putrajaya was marked by a stunning display from the Cavalry Unit of the Royal Malaysia Police. Led by Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim, a total of 30 horse assets from the Police Department (PDRM) participated in the parade, symbolising discipline, teamwork, and the unique harmony between humans and animals.

At the helm of the Unit is Dayang Kasmayane Awang Anak, a senior officer in the Royal Malaysia Police. She explained the preparation process for the horses, stating that they are trained with specific techniques to remain calm in unexpected situations. If a horse becomes startled, PDRM personnel guide the horse in increasingly smaller circles to help calm it down.

The strong emotional bond between the horse and its rider is crucial for the effective use of these calming techniques. Daily grooming, including cleaning, bathing, and combing the horse's coat, is vital for building mutual trust between the horse and its rider.

The horses selected for the parade are well-trained and not prone to bad temper, as they have been trained with rigorous routines. These routines include performing tasks such as riot control, crime prevention, and patrolling the country's borders. To prepare the horses for various situations, they are exposed to a wide range of sounds, including music, sirens, bells, gunfire, and explosions.

The parade included Warmblood, Polo Pony, Arabian, Thoroughbred, and Stock Horse breeds, each demonstrating their strength and agility. The horses must remain steady amid sudden distractions, including low-flying fighter jets, to ensure they remain calm during actual operations or in unexpected situations.

Dayang Kasmayane, who serves as the Commanding Officer of the Mounted Unit within the police force, emphasised the importance of the PDRM personnel responsible for handling the horses. They must possess both competence and intelligence to gain the trust of these sensitive animals.

After the National Day celebration, Dayang Kasmayane made comments on the event, expressing her satisfaction with the horses' performance and the unity displayed by the Cavalry Unit. The event was a testament to the dedication and training of the PDRM personnel and their horses, showcasing the unique bond between humans and animals in service of the nation.
