Espionage and celebrity collision in 'Tempest'
Disney+ is gearing up for the release of its latest high-profile original series, "Tempest," premiering on September 10. This intriguing espionage romance drama stars Jun Ji-hyun (also known as Gianna Jun) and Gang Dong-won in the lead roles.
The series, which takes on a cyclical structure where stories continually emerge, was not initially intended to be a large-scale blockbuster but grew bigger as it was developed. Authenticity and starting from a place of truth were emphasized in its creation.
Jun Ji-hyun was specifically envisioned for the female lead role, playing diplomat Moon-ju, who investigates the shooting of presidential candidate and special agent San-ho, portrayed by Gang Dong-won. Chung Seo-kyung, the script writer for "Tempest," created a female character involved in politics after hearing director Kim Hee-won's desire to depict the love of a powerful woman. A handsome male lead who could protect the female character was placed alongside Jun Ji-hyun in the series.
Director Kim Hee-won, known for narratives about people who struggle and fight with their lives on the line, was drawn to the project. He co-directs "Tempest" with Heo Myung-haeng. The directors' identities behind the series were not found in the search results.
"Tempest" is intended to make viewers feel as though it could really be happening in the world around them. The melodramatic tension between the two protagonists is amplified by the setting.
With its anticipated release, "Tempest" is one of Disney+'s most anticipated Korean tentpoles this year. Don't miss out on this gripping series when it premieres on September 10.
