Stellantis and Leapmotor Push Forward with Electric Vehicle Expansion

Stellantis, the automotive giant, is set to introduce two new electric models – the compact T03 and the SUV C10 – in Europe from the end of September and October respectively. The T03, starting at 18,900 euros, and the C10, starting at 36,400 euros, will be the first offerings from Leapmotor, Stellantis' 15th brand, as part of their joint venture to become a major player in the electric vehicle market.

The T03 city car and the C10 SUV were unveiled near Milan, Italy, signifying Stellantis' commitment to electrification in a time of soft global demand for electric vehicles. Initially, the T03 will be imported from China but will also be assembled in Europe at Stellantis' Tychy plant in Poland. The details regarding the manufacturing location of the C10 model are yet to be provided.

Carlos Tavares, Stellantis' CEO, emphasized the importance of selling EVs at the same price as petrol models. He also expressed opposition to relief from intermediate CO2 targets for cars and vans in the EU in 2025, reiterating the company's dedication to sustainable practices.

The addition of Leapmotor as a brand will help Stellantis comply with EU emission rules and widen its range of electric vehicles. Tavares hinted that the C10 model could be manufactured in Europe, which, if realised, could potentially help Leapmotor avoid European Union tariffs on imported Chinese EVs.

The global eMobility transition is a topic of ongoing political discussion, with its causes and consequences further explored in the article titled "Global eMobility transition 'politically divided': What are the causes and consequences?" Stellantis' push towards electrification is a significant contribution to this transition, aiming to make electric vehicles accessible and affordable for a wide range of consumers.

As Stellantis and Leapmotor expand their budget electric vehicle offering in Europe, they are paving the way for a more sustainable future in the automotive industry. Leapmotor, as a new brand for Stellantis, will contribute to the company's expansion of affordable electric vehicle offerings, making electric mobility more attainable for consumers across the continent.
