Evaluation of Emirates Skywards Fidelity Program
Emirates Skywards, the airline's loyalty program for frequent flyers, offers a wealth of benefits and opportunities for mileage accumulation and redemption. Here's a breakdown of the key features of this rewarding program.
Earning Skywards Miles
Skywards Miles can be earned not only through flying with Emirates but also through partnerships with numerous airlines such as Air Mauritius, Jetstar, South African Airways, GOL Linhas AeΜreas, Korean Air, TAP Portugal, Japan Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Virgin America, Jet Airways, Qantas, and JetBlue. To earn miles with partner airlines, you may need to know the fare class of your ticket, which can be obtained by calling the airline.
Tier Miles and Status
Tier Miles are a crucial aspect of the Emirates Skywards program. They determine your membership tier, which can range from Silver, Gold, to Platinum. Silver status can be achieved by earning 25,000 Tier Miles or taking 25 flights, while Gold status requires 50,000 Tier Miles or 50 flights. Platinum status, however, can only be achieved by earning 150,000 Tier Miles, but there is no way to earn solely by flights. Tier Miles can only be earned on Emirates-operated flights or codeshares on other airlines that are marketed by Emirates.
Skywards Miles Conversion
American Express Membership Rewards points convert to Skywards miles at a rate of 1,000 points to 1,000 Skywards miles. Other points from Bilt Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, Capital One Miles, and Marriott Bonvoy points can also be transferred to Emirates Skywards.
Redeeming Skywards Miles
Skywards miles can be used to book reward flights, upgrade cabin class, or even pay for a ticket using cash and miles through the Cash+Miles feature. With Cash+Miles, you must use a minimum of 2,000 miles on a ticket, and every 5,000 miles translates to a $40 discount.
Emirates does not publish an award chart for its flights. Instead, use the Miles Calculator on the Emirates website to price specific routes. Emirates first class award space is only available to Silver, Gold, and Platinum elite members. Classic Awards on Emirates flights start at 15,000 miles for a round trip.
Managing Your Skywards Account
The Skywards My Account page is a hub for all your Skywards activity. Here, you can view your account activity, manage your account profile and settings, and learn about earning and redeeming miles. To log in to your Skywards account, go here and use your email address or Skywards account number and password.
Award Fees and Emirates Business Rewards
Emirates has reasonable award fees for changes and cancellations. For example, date change is free for Flex Plus/Flex tickets and $25 elsewhere, and refund is free for unused Flex Plus tickets, $50 for Flex tickets in first class, and $75 for Saver tickets.
Emirates Business Rewards allows you to register your small business and earn 1 Business Rewards point per $1 spent when your employees travel on Emirates. There is no limit to the number of employees permitted on 1 account and no minimum spend. It's important to note that employees still earn their own Skywards miles in addition to the Business Rewards points you earn.
Joining Skywards is free and easy by registering here. Skywards miles expire after 3 years, even if there is continuing account activity. However, Emirates does not charge any fees for extending the expiration date of your miles.
In conclusion, Emirates Skywards offers a robust loyalty program with numerous opportunities for mileage accumulation and redemption. Whether you're a frequent flyer or a casual traveller, there's something for everyone in this rewarding program.
