Evangelical church extends invitation to multi-faith prayer for peace, set to take place at Fronhof

On September 13, 2023, an interreligious peace prayer event will be held in Solingen, Germany. This significant gathering aims to promote peace and community within the city and is a symbolic act of unity.

The event will take place at the Fronhof in the city centre, specifically in front of the city church. The "Engel der Kulturen" (Angel of Cultures), a symbolic artwork designed by artists Carmen Dietrich and Gregor Merten, will play a significant role in the event's symbolism.

The "Engel der Kulturen" is an angel figure that incorporates the Islamic crescent, the Jewish Star of David, and the Christian cross. It has been a permanent fixture on the Fronhof since 2012. During the peace prayer, artists Carmen Dietrich and Gregor Merten will clean the "Engel der Kulturen" as a symbolic act to counter the association of the Fronhof with terror and death.

The organisers of the event include the Evangelical Church Circle of Solingen, the Circle of Solingen Muslims, and the Working Group of Christian Churches. Pastor Jens Maßmann, responsible for the Christian-Islamic Dialogue at the Evangelical Church Circle of Solingen, is one of the co-initiators of the peace prayer.

Representatives from various religious communities based in Solingen will participate in the event. All Solingen residents of any faith are warmly invited to attend and be a part of this public sign for peace and community.

The prayer will start at 6:00 PM. The Evangelical Church Circle of Solingen, the Circle of Solingen Muslims, and the Working Group of Christian Churches are working together to ensure a peaceful and memorable event for all.
