Event for the official transfer of Sports Hall 2 in Schönwalde I

The new Sports Hall 2 in Schönwalde I was officially unveiled on July 21, 2025, marking a significant addition to the city's education and sports infrastructure. The event was attended by Mayor Dr. Stefan Fassbinder, Senator Achim Lerm, and Minister Christian Pegel, along with representatives from the city council, administration, planning offices and construction companies, the city sports association, and nearby schools.

This modern facility, funded by the German Federal Government (around 779,000 euros), urban development funding, and the MV Protection Fund's school construction program for technical facilities (approximately 3 million euros), boasts a total construction cost of around 10 million euros, staying well within the planned budget.

The new hall, a lively hub in the neighbourhood, is divided into three equal-sized fields, each offering optimal conditions for school and club sports. It features a tribune, a gymnastics room, and special markings for roller sports, making it a versatile space for various activities.

Senator for Urban Development Achim Lerm emphasized that the sports hall is a place for people of all ages to meet and strengthen the sense of community in Schönwalde I. The Mayor, Dr. Stefan Fassbinder, stated that the new construction continues the city's path of creating modern, versatile sports facilities.

The sports hall connects health, education, and social interaction, and is located next to the Integrated Comprehensive School "Erwin Fischer". The outdoor facilities include a shot put area and a mountain bike course, further enhancing its appeal.

The well-known former TV host "Adi" led the program and invited everyone to participate in various sports activities. The new sports hall is an important building block in the development of Greifswald's education and sports infrastructure, and is one of three state-of-the-art sports facilities now available in different districts of the city.

The opening of Sports Hall 2 in Schönwalde I is a testament to the city's commitment to fostering a healthy, active, and engaged community.
