Ex-Fenerbahce coach exits Istanbul, lacking the grandeur of welcome he received earlier
Jose Mourinho Departs Fenerbahce After Tumultuous Tenure
After a rollercoaster ride of six months at Fenerbahce, Jose Mourinho has bid farewell to the Turkish club. The Portuguese manager's departure was officially announced by the club on Friday, two days after their exit from the UEFA Champions League playoffs against Benfica.
Mourinho joined Fenerbahce earlier this year with the hope of leading the club to domestic and European success. However, his tenure was marked by controversies, including accusations of lowering team morale ahead of crucial games. Despite this, he managed to record 37 wins, 14 draws, and 11 defeats, averaging 2.02 points per game during his time with the club.
The club competed in Türkiye's top professional football division, the Turkish Super Lig, during Mourinho's tenure. His appointment was seen as a significant step for the club, reflecting their ambition to compete at the highest level.
Mourinho's departure from Istanbul took place on Saturday morning, with the manager accompanied by some of his coaching staff at the airport. There were no fans or club officials present to bid him farewell. Before leaving, Mourinho posed for photos with fans at Istanbul Airport.
In recent statements, Mourinho included veiled criticism of Fenerbahce's management and squad. However, the club thanked him for his efforts and wished him success in his future career.
Following his departure, Mourinho announced that his next employer could be back in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest has been mentioned as a possible candidate, although Nuno Espirito Santo currently holds the head coach position there.
Fenerbahce's search for a new manager begins as they look to regroup and continue their pursuit of success in the Turkish Super Lig and beyond.
