Excavating muddy areas close to Baddeckenstedt
In the picturesque Holle wetland, a significant project is underway. Starting from the second half of 2026, a comprehensive compost removal process will be initiated, marking a new chapter for this vibrant ecosystem.
The compost, accumulated over the years, will be gradually extracted from the bed. To facilitate transportation, straw may be added when necessary. Ten trucks per day will transport the compost from the bed towards Holle, ensuring a steady flow of operations.
Once transported, the compost will be temporarily stored on a special concrete slab for water release. After this initial stage, the compost will be further processed by the specialist company Vornkahl, ensuring it is ready for its next phase of use.
To allow the excavator access, the dam of the sealed basin will be broken. The excavator will work its way through the reeds, carefully lifting out the compost along with the plants. A layer of compost will be left on the bottom to allow the reeds to regrow later, maintaining the balance of the wetland ecosystem.
This project also signals the removal of the compost cemetery in Baddeckenstedt, which will further increase truck traffic in the area. The community is advised to expect increased vehicle activity during this period.
Despite the disruptive nature of the project, efforts are being made to minimise its impact on the environment. The Holle wetland team is committed to preserving the natural beauty of this area while ensuring the compost is safely and effectively removed and processed.
Stay tuned for updates on this exciting project as it continues to unfold in the Holle wetland.
