NAB Show 2024 Embraces Virtual Production and Innovation
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2024 showcased an exciting array of technological advancements in the realm of virtual production, with various exhibitors demonstrating cutting-edge solutions to captivate attendees.
At the AbsenLive Studio booth, Michael Traverzo, a virtual cinematographer from Xr214 Studios, aimed to provide NAB Show attendees with an adventure they could take home. AbsenLive Studio brought virtual production to the event, managing video displays, cameras, and overlays using Resolume software, OBS, and Stream Deck technology. This setup was on full display at the AbsenLive Studio booth, presenting a mixed reality experience in Central Hall, featuring a 1.9mm pixel pitch video wall from RGBW tiles with processing from Brompton.
Canon's exhibit was another highlight of the show, offering visitors a taste of virtual production in various settings. One such experience was a romantic beachside dinner on a virtual production set, made possible through the use of the CR-N700 camera and the live production EOS C500 Mark II. The exhibit also included a city street meetup on a cinema production set, as well as live music performances using the EOS C300 Mark III and CINE-SERVO 15-120mm T2.95-3.9 cameras.
In addition to virtual production, streaming sports events were showcased through skateboarding, boxing, and ping pong demonstrations. Broadcast Solutions presented a special exhibition concept with virtual productions and different studios, further emphasising the potential of virtual production in the sports broadcasting industry.
The 2024 NAB Show also featured innovative lighting solutions from Chauvet, such as the Kino Flo Panel, accompanied by a massive video wall and an aerial silk show. Meanwhile, Amazon Web Services offered the AWS Generative AI Golf Experience in South Hall, allowing visitors to experience golf's notable holes with Full Swing, the Official Simulator Partner of the PGA Tour.
Radio World's assistant editor, Elle Kehres, took an off-road adventure through canyons in Vū and MRMC's Unreal Ride, partnered with Nikon at the 2024 NAB Show. The event even saw a test flight for the DJI Avata 2 drone, showcasing the latest developments in aerial filmmaking technology.
