Gathers artifacts from the temporal trash heap: outdated computers, televisions, phones, assorted cast-offs. To contemporary European environmentally-minded individuals, this conduct is troubling.

The Düsseldorf Art Palace is thrilled to present "Elias Sime: Echo," the Ethiopian artist's first solo show in the German-speaking world. The exhibition, running until June 1, 2025, showcases Sime's monumental collages and wall reliefs made from everyday objects and discarded electronic components.

Curated by Felicity Korn, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the impact of technology on society, as seen through Sime's unique artistic lens. Sime's partner, Meskerem Assegued, is also involved in his art, contributing to the collaborative nature of the exhibition.

Sime's ongoing series since 2009, titled "Tightrope," is prominently featured. In this series, Sime uses technological parts as materials for his reliefs, a practice he began around the same time as his first solo exhibition in the USA in 2009.

One of the standout pieces in the exhibition is "Noiseless," where individual keys form plastic islands in a sea of blue cables. Another notable work is "Behind the processor," a four-meter long abstract composition discovered by Sime in 2023/24.

The exhibition also features colorful walls, Zoma photo wallpaper, and sculptures called "Monkeys, Frogs and Televisions" made in 2005. Sime's early works, such as the "Dream World" sewn with buttons and cotton threads on canvas in 2001, are also on display.

In addition to the artwork, the exhibition includes a studio inviting creative work with wires and other materials. Visitors can engage with the artistic process and create their own pieces inspired by Sime's work.

Sime is known for his innovative use of discarded electronic devices in his art. His artwork is created by gluing dismantled electronic parts onto boards to form large works. One such monumental work is "Evolution," created in 2017, which features coiled wires and two amphibious creatures in the middle.

Another recent work, "Dichotomy," created by Sime in 2023/24, is also on display. In this piece, domed triangles resemble a divided globe filled with circuit boards, cables, and old clocks.

Beyond his art, Sime has made a significant impact in his hometown of Addis Ababa. He built a cultural and educational center named Zoma, constructed using traditional earth-building techniques.

The catalog for the exhibition, priced at 29.80 euros, can be found on www.kunstpalast.de. Don't miss this opportunity to experience Sime's thought-provoking art and gain insights into the role of technology in our society.
