Expanded Car Sharing Services in Hamburg with HVV Switch
In the heart of Germany, the city of Hamburg is taking significant strides towards a more sustainable future, with a focus on expanding its public transport and shared mobility offerings.
At the helm of this transformation is Dr. Anjes Tjarks, the Senator for Transport and Mobility Transition in Hamburg. Tjarks is leading initiatives such as driverless public transport projects and the expansion of shared mobility services.
This year, 50 new HVV-Switch points have been realised, with another 15 locations set to open in the second half of the year. These points, located across the city, are part of a broader aim to make all relevant mobility services of the city accessible through the HVV Switch app.
The app, available at hvv-switch.de, bundles car-sharing services from Sixt Share, Share Now, and Miles, as well as Moia trips and e-scooter use. The goal is to make it easier for Hamburg residents to choose sustainable transport options.
Hamburg-Nord, Eimsbüttel, and Altona are the areas with the most HVV-Switch locations. Hamburg-Nord has the most with 69, followed by Eimsbüttel with 39 and Altona with 33. Additionally, Hamburg-Mitte, Harburg, and Wandsbek each have between 15 and 24 HVV-Switch locations.
The expansion of shared mobility is not limited to the city centre. Car-sharing services are being extended to Hamburg's outskirts, including Bergedorf. This move aims to make sustainable transport options more accessible to a wider population.
Public transport is also being expanded with smart and demand-responsive services to make private cars almost obsolete. Initiatives like these are part of a larger plan to reduce carbon emissions and promote a more sustainable city.
In collaboration with the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV) and Hamburger Hochbahn, these efforts are set to continue, ensuring that Hamburg remains at the forefront of sustainable mobility solutions. Moia and Hochbahn are also expanding Hamburg's public transport offerings, further enhancing the city's commitment to a greener future.
As Hamburg continues to grow and evolve, its commitment to sustainable mobility remains unwavering. With the HVV Switch initiative and ongoing expansion of public transport, the city is making it easier for its residents to choose sustainable options and contribute to a greener future.
