Expanded Recall of Hygiene Products: Twelve Additional Items Potentially Pose Risk of 'Lethal Sepsis'

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of 24 hygiene products manufactured by DermaRite. This expanded recall, issued on Aug 28, includes 12 additional products: 4-N-1, DermaCerin, DermaFungal, DermaMed, Gel Rite, Hand E Foam, Lantiseptic, PeriGuard, Renew Dimethicone, Renew Periprotect, Renew Skin Repair, and UltraSure.

The recall was initiated based on information provided by the companies and reports of contamination with the bacterial species Burkholderia cepacia. This microbe, which may be present in the recalled products, could potentially cause local infections in healthy individuals and life-threatening sepsis in immunocompromised individuals.

Customers who have used the newly recalled products are advised to dispose of them immediately. It is crucial not to use these products until they have been disposed of and any potential health issues have been addressed by a doctor. If customers have used the recalled products and experience any issues related to the items, they should contact a doctor.

The products affected by the recall are DermaKleen, DermaSarra, KleenFoam, PeriGiene, and the 12 additional products mentioned above. These products include cleansers, antiseptics, and protectants.

For more detailed information about the recall, customers can visit the FDA's website. DermaRite has issued a second round of voluntary recalls for these hygiene products on Aug 28.

It is essential to prioritise health and safety, and customers are encouraged to follow the guidelines provided by the FDA and DermaRite to ensure their wellbeing.
