The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, led by H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, has made significant strides in the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. The latest phase, Phase 4, has been inaugurated, bringing a host of improvements to the bustling city.

Spanning 4.8 km, Phase 4 includes a total of 5 bridges, amounting to 3.1 km, as well as road upgrades, intersection enhancements, and two new pedestrian bridges. The project, which connects Deira and Bur Dubai over 13 km and links 15 intersections, is a testament to the leadership's vision to support urban growth and mobility in Dubai.

Two new pedestrian bridges have been added as part of this phase. One is located on Sheikh Rashid Road, while the other can be found on Al Mina Street. These bridges aim to facilitate smooth pedestrian movement and contribute to the overall improvement of the corridor.

In terms of vehicular traffic, the bridges in Phase 4 boast a combined capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour. A 985m bridge, for instance, has a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour and consists of two lanes. Another bridge, measuring 780m, has a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour and consists of three lanes.

The project has already seen the opening of a 1,335m bridge in December 2024, connecting Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to Infinity Bridge. Additionally, a 1,210-metre bridge for traffic flow from Infinity Bridge through Al Mina Street to Sheikh Rashid Road has also been inaugurated.

Intersection enhancements are also a key part of Phase 4, with improvements made on Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Street.

As the project nears completion, with 90% of Phase 4 already finished, the remaining bridges are scheduled to open in Q2 2025. These include a 780m bridge connecting Infinity Bridge to Al Wasl Street and a 985m bridge connecting Jumeirah Street to Falcon Intersection.

Upon full completion, the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is expected to benefit 1 million residents and generate AED 45 billion in economic value over 20 years. The project also aims to reduce travel time from the current 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030.

The Al Shindagha Corridor is not just about traffic flow, though. Road upgrades from Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to Falcon Intersection are also part of the project, ensuring smoother journeys for all who use this vital artery of Dubai. A 605m bridge improves access from Al Mina Street to Sheikh Rashid Road, further enhancing the corridor's connectivity.

With these improvements, the Al Shindagha Corridor will continue to be a key player in Dubai's urban growth and mobility, making travel within the city more efficient and convenient for all its residents and visitors.
