Expands Electronic Trading Unit in Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Citi
Citi Strengthens Electronic Execution Team with New Appointments
In a strategic move to bolster its prime and execution footprint, global financial services giant Citi has announced the appointment of three new leaders for its electronic execution team in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region.
Yashar Asl, who previously served as the EMEA head of electronic trading, has been named the head of cash execution risk and quantitative services at Citi. Asl's extensive 23-year career in senior electronic equity trading roles includes stints at BNY Mellon Pershing, ING, G-Trade, and most recently, BMO Capital Markets, where he was the managing director of electronic trading from 2021 to 2023.
Joining Asl are Jamie Miller and Abdul Satti. Miller, who was most recently head of EMEA electronic equities sales trading at Citi, will now co-head electronic execution alongside Satti. Satti began his financial services career at Citi in 2014 as director of execution advisory services and was later appointed head of EMEA execution advisory services in 2022.
The trio, based in London, will oversee sales, sales trading, execution advisory services, and algo trading at the firm. They report to Sam Baig, head of cash execution at Citi.
Citi's strategic decision to strengthen its electronic execution team has paid off, with the company reporting a record second quarter for equity markets in Q2 2025. The quarter saw US$1.6 billion in revenue, representing a 6% increase year-on-year. This growth underscores Citi's commitment to delivering superior results for its clients in the ever-evolving financial markets.
As part of this commitment, Citi is also developing a global quant product for its clients, with Asl leading this initiative. The details of this product are yet to be disclosed, but it is expected to further enhance Citi's prime and execution capabilities.
With these strategic appointments and initiatives, Citi continues to position itself as a leader in the global financial markets, providing innovative solutions and exceptional service to its clients.
