Expands Production Space for Arms Manufacturing Seen by Pistorius in Germany
In a significant move for the German defense sector, Diehl Defence is currently investing one billion euros in various German sites, signaling a growing commitment to the country's arms production. This investment was announced during a visit by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to a defense company in Troisdorf.
Pistorius sees potential for further expansion of arms production in Germany, particularly in areas like Dynitec GmbH, a subsidiary of Diehl Defence. He believes that Germany needs to become more independent in these areas through technological development and growth of industrial sites and production capacities.
The success of this expansion is evident in the case of the Iris-T air defense system, manufactured by Diehl Defence. Capacities for this system have increased tenfold, and the system has proven high effectiveness against attacking weapons systems, with a success rate almost at 100 percent, as demonstrated by its deployment in Ukraine. Eight Iris-T firing units have already been delivered to Ukraine, with eight more to be handed over.
The city of Troisdorf, where much of this expansion is taking place, has not been without its challenges. There had been disputes regarding the site, which could have hindered the expansion of arms activities. However, the CEO of Diehl Defence, Helmut Rauch, announced that capacities in Troisdorf have been doubled and will be doubled again by 2026.
Besides Dynitec GmbH and Diehl Defence, other companies or organizations likely to be involved in the future expansion of defense industries in Germany include Hensoldt, a leading sensor solutions firm co-owned by the German federal government and Leonardo SpA. Other major industry players focusing on robotics, cyber-security, and military communication systems may also play a role.
The expansion of production at Dynitec GmbH is of central importance for the overall expansion of arms production in Germany. Dynitec manufactures components crucial for ammunition and guided missiles, as well as components of igniters and explosives used in these products.
Diehl Defence is a significant player in the expansion of arms production in Germany, and their investment is expected to bolster the country's defense capabilities in the coming years. As the world continues to face security challenges, Germany is positioning itself to play a more active role in the global defense landscape.
