Experience the reimagined tutorial dungeon from Oblivion in the initial 15 minutes of a Skyblivion gameplay video
In the world of gaming, the Skyblivion project continues to make strides, with the team still actively seeking volunteers to help bring this ambitious project to fruition.
Lead by Kyle (AKA Rebelzize), the Skyblivion team is working tirelessly to remake the classic open-world RPG, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, using the Skyrim engine. This philosophy is a remake rather than a remaster, with redesigned dungeons and new quest systems.
One of the notable changes in Skyblivion is the tutorial dungeon, which takes players from a dark elf, through battles with the cultists of the Mythic Dawn, into the sewers, and out into the open world. The team has deliberately left the tutorial fairly vanilla to avoid shocking players too much. Interestingly, the final rat in the sewer remains friendly and can be walked past without combat, much like its counterpart in Oblivion.
Plenty of things have changed in Skyblivion, including a new lockpicking system and animations with a definite Skyrim-ness. Seeing the recreated opening segment is a surreal reminder of the project's progress over the past 10 years.
For those eager to learn more about Skyblivion, a livestream is available, featuring extra footage of the project, including the first area of an Ayleid ruin, open world roaming, and the settlements of Cheydinhaal and Anvil. Additionally, a full guide for Skyblivion is available for those wanting a comprehensive look at the game.
Jody Macgregor, a writer for PC Gamer, has been following the progress of Skyblivion. His journalistic career began in music journalism and radio show hosting about videogames. He wrote his first article for PC Gamer in 2015, focusing on the audio of Alien Isolation. From 2017 to 2018, he edited PC Gamer Indie. Since then, he has written for multiple gaming publications, covering a wide range of topics, from the merits of Silent Hill on PC to the charm of Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale, and the peculiarities of Lost Ark.
In terms of hardware recommendations for playing Skyblivion, the MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED is the best overall recommended monitor. For those on a budget, the Alienware 34 QD-OLED AW3423DWF is a solid choice. For a 1440p monitor, the MSI MPG 271QRX is highly recommended. For those seeking a 27-inch monitor, the Alienware 27 AW2525Q is a good option. For those who prefer a 32:9 ratio monitor, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is a top pick. Lastly, for those seeking an ultrawide OLED monitor, the LG UltraGear 32GS95UE is a great choice.
As the Skyblivion project continues, it's an exciting time for fans of The Elder Scrolls series. Stay tuned for more updates on this ambitious project.
