Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroƫn, a joint venture between the French automaker and Dongfeng Motor Corporation, a state-owned Chinese automotive manufacturer, has made significant strides in the Chinese market. The company has launched a new brand, Hedmos NEV, dedicated to all-electric vehicles, and debuted a new luxury sedan, the Citroƫn c-ElyseƩ.

The c-ElyseƩ, a refined version of the Fukang, has been met with high demand, particularly in the market where the older Fukang and the Jetta are still popular. The c-ElyseƩ boasts a new front and some changes at the back, setting it apart from its predecessor.

Interestingly, the c-ElyseƩ and the Jetta are engaged in a competition often referred to as a "last fight," reflecting the enduring appeal of these vehicles despite the rise of newer models. Chinese consumers, known for their preference for simplicity and reliability, continue to favour these older, more straightforward cars over newer models with advanced electronics and computer systems.

In addition to the c-ElyseƩ, Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroƫn is also producing the Fukang for the taximarket. The Fukang, based on the Citroƫn ZX, which was produced in France between 1991 and 1996, has been a staple in the Chinese market.

Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroƫn is also making strides in the electric vehicle sector. The first all-electric SUV from Hedmos NEV, the new brand, is set to be available in May. Meanwhile, the Dongfeng Fukang ES600, featuring a swappable battery for the Peugeot 408, has been launched.

The Dongfeng Rich 6 EV Pickup Truck has also been launched on the Chinese car market, priced at approximately $40,000.

The c-ElyseƩ shares a 1.6 litre engine with the new Jetta, both of which are being produced in the joint venture with Dongfeng Automotive. The c-ElyseƩ is priced between 73,800 and 84,800 rmb, while the Jetta costs between 70,000 and 80,000 rmb.

This latest move by Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroƫn underscores the company's commitment to meeting the diverse needs of the Chinese market, from traditional cars to electric vehicles, and from luxury sedans to pickup trucks.
