In the week-long Europe-wide Speed Marathon, which took place from April 7 to 13, 2025, the local police department overseeing the Reutlingen region reported an alarmingly high number of speeding violations. A total of around 1,186 drivers were caught speeding, with 19 of them facing driving bans.

The speed checks were conducted in close coordination with the counties and municipalities, focusing on accident-prone and dangerous stretches of road in four counties: Reutlingen, Esslingen, Tübingen, and Zollernalbkreis. The Police Headquarters Reutlingen was the area where the majority of these offenses were reported.

The speeding offenses ranged from minor infractions, with 170 cases resulting in fines of at least 60 euros, to more severe cases. In nine of these cases, or nearly a quarter of the fatal accidents, excessive speed was the cause or a contributing factor. Two drivers were taken off the road for driving under the influence of drugs, and one driver was taken off the road for driving under the influence of alcohol.

One driver, a 44-year-old in an Audi A6, drove 54 km/h over the speed limit on the B28 in Römerstein and now faces a fine of at least 480 euros and a one-month driving ban. Another driver, a 59-year-old in an Audi TT RS, exceeded the speed limit by 67 km/h on the same stretch and can expect two points in Flensburg, a two-month driving ban, and a fine of at least 600 euros.

In addition to speeding violations, sixteen road users were warned for not wearing seat belts, and twenty-one drivers were caught using their phones while driving and received one point in Flensburg and a fine of at least 100 euros.

The police authority emphasised that speed monitoring will continue to be an integral part of their work to increase safety on our roads. Intensive speed checks will continue during the remaining Speedweek and beyond. The focus will remain on accident-prone and dangerous stretches of road to ensure the safety of all road users.
