Exploring the upcoming Nothing Phone (3a) Series in exclusive detail
Nothing Unveils Sleek New Phone (3a) Series
In a bold move, fast-growing tech company Nothing has announced the release of its latest handset, the Phone (3a). This device is the successor to Nothing's most popular handset to date, the Phone (2a), which found a significant audience.
Carl Pei, the CEO and co-founder of Nothing, unveiled the Phone (3a) in March 2025. The company, while still smaller compared to its competitors, offers a nimbleness and lightness of touch that larger companies lack.
The design process for Phone (3a) is unique. It includes 3D printed layouts supplemented by more detailed models made in China. The new design moves away from the anthropomorphic 'face' of Phone (2a) and adopts a circular lens arrangement reminiscent of traditional SLR camera design.
One of the standout features of Phone (3a) is its pro-level camera system. It consists of a 50MP main sensor, a 32MP front camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a new 50MP periscope lens with a Sony sensor. The 50MP periscope lens offers 3x optical zoom, 6x in-sensor zoom, and a 60x ultra (digital) zoom, along with macro photography and a 70mm mode suitable for portraits.
The Phone (3a) also features an additional camera module, which significantly changes the way the camera systems interface with the phone. All three cameras take advantage of Nothing's TrueLens Engine 3.0, new AI clarity-enhancing algorithms.
The new Phone (3a) Series showcases Nothing's dedication to difference through design. It represents a physical and technical evolution for Nothing. The silver-grey finish of Phone (3a) emphasizes the industrial and technical underpinnings of the device.
Phone (3a) also boasts a new button with a distinct look and feel from traditional power and volume controls. The new Phone (3a) Series will be available in two finishes: black and silver-grey.
Lucy Birley, the Head of CMF Strategy + Design at Nothing, joined the company in late 2023. She brings prior experience from Dyson, PriestmanGoode, Nissan, and Seymourpowell. Global Design Director of Nothing, Adam Bates, has been with the company for three years, previously working with Dyson, Map Project Office, and others.
Nothing's products are considered emotionally engaging, with a commitment to grassroots involvement that benefits both the company and customers. The new Phone (3a) Series will be available from 4 March 2025. In a homogenous world of phone design, Nothing has carved out a distinct aesthetic, earning a cult following.
