Extensive Investigation Leads to Joint Press Conference Between KPB Unna and Dortmund Prosecutor's Office on September 4, 2025

In a significant development, the Kreispolizeibehörde Unna, in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor's Office Dortmund, announced a major investigative success on 04.09.2025. This success is linked to two separate but interconnected cases: a case of banditry and a human smuggling operation.

The primary suspect in the banditry case, a 26-year-old Iraqi man from Menden, was identified and arrested. The police operations on 05.08.2025 in Frödenberg and Menden, initially related to the suspicion of dealing in narcotics, led to his apprehension.

Investigations further revealed indications of human smuggling, a charge that the same individual is now facing. The smuggling operation, which took place between September 2023 and April 2024, saw the duo allegedly smuggling a total of 88 people into Germany with the help of six accomplices. Nine smuggling trips were proven, with 84 of the smuggled individuals identified.

The six accomplices in the human smuggling case are a 22-year-old German from Kamen, two 21-year-old Germans from Hamm, a 39-year-old Italian from Neuenrade, a 23-year-old German from Solingen, and a 25-year-old German national from Hemer. A 20-year-old Syrian man from Menden, an accomplice of the primary suspect, was also arrested by officers of the Kreispolizeibehörde Unna and remanded in custody.

During searches in Kamen, Hamm, Iserlohn, Neuenrade, and Menden, ten mobile phones, a laptop, and a low five-figure sum of cash were seized. Eight suspects were arrested at a towing and impound lot on Max-Planck-Straße in Unna with the assistance of special forces.
