Extensive Renovation and Expansion of Gutenberg School in Alt-Hohenschönhausen
The Gutenberg School, situated at Sandinostrasse 10 in the Alt-Hohenschoenhausen district, is undergoing a significant transformation as part of a comprehensive modernization and expansion project.
Work on this ambitious undertaking has already commenced this year. The project includes a variety of renovations and constructions, aiming to make the school more functional, accessible, and spacious to meet the growing space requirements of the school.
One of the main components of the project is the construction of two new sports halls, one for each school: the Gutenberg-Oberschule and the neighbouring Wilhelmberg School. These sports halls will each have three fields, supplemented by a cafeteria, multi-purpose rooms, specialist rooms, and storage areas.
The modernization and expansion of the Gutenberg School will be carried out in multiple phases. Construction of the new sports hall for the Gutenberg-Oberschule is set to begin in Q2 2029, with completion scheduled for Q2 2031. A new multi-purpose sports hall will also be constructed as part of the expansion.
A comprehensive renovation of the entrance area is planned to enhance the school's accessibility for students and teachers. This renovation will be completed in 2032, making the Gutenberg School fully barrier-free. A new elevator will be installed in the existing building, and an elevator annex at the main building will be constructed, with the latter beginning in Q1 2027 and expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
The school site will be significantly expanded as part of the renovation project. The existing annex at the school will be replaced as part of an education project in the Lichtenberg district. The new building will be more spacious, sustainably enhancing the entire educational site in Alt-Hohenschoenhausen.
However, there is no information available about who is responsible for the planning and management of the comprehensive new construction and renovation work at the Gutenberg-Gymnasium in Alt-Hohenschönhausen.
The renovation work includes pipe renovation in the rainwater area and the renovation of the main water pipes. This essential aspect of the project will ensure the school's infrastructure remains in top condition.
The completion of the entrance area renovation in 2032 will mark a significant milestone in the project, making the Gutenberg School not only more functional but also a more inviting and accessible place for all its students and teachers.
