Farewell tour of Veronika Fischer is being abruptly terminated.
In a heartfelt announcement on her Facebook channel, DDR Schlager icon Veronika Fischer confirmed that she is retiring from the big stage due to voice problems. The news has left her fans across Germany in a state of sadness, as Fischer's farewell tour, which was scheduled to start this Friday in Neubrandenburg, has been canceled.
Born in 1952, Fischer's professional career began in 1971 as a voice student at the Dresden Music Academy. She quickly made a name for herself in the music industry, singing with bands such as the Fred Herfter Combo, Stern Combo MeiΓen, and Panta Rhei. In 1974, she founded her own group, Veronika Fischer & Band, which marked the beginning of her successful solo career.
Over the next five decades, Fischer made Schlager history with songs like "Auf der Wiese", "Sommernachtsball", and "DaΓ ich eine Schneeflocke wΓ€r". Her powerful voice and energetic performances captivated audiences, and she became a beloved figure in the world of Eastern German music.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Fischer returned to Eastern Germany, where her fans have remained loyal to this day. However, age-related limitations have forced her to say goodbye to her fans earlier than planned. All scheduled smaller events by Fischer after ending her career as a major band singer have been canceled due to health issues affecting her voice; this includes concerts planned for September and November 2025 in locations such as Neubrandenburg, Dresden, Potsdam, Berlin, Bautzen, Freiberg, and Aue, with no replacement dates announced.
Manager Wollny confirmed that Fischer's farewell is with a band, and expressed his sympathy for the situation. "Performing on a big stage takes a lot of energy for Veronika," he said. "We are all saddened by this turn of events, but we understand that her health must come first."
Despite the canceled concerts, there is one future concert listed for September 5, 2026, at Kulturweberei - Stadthalle Finsterwalde, which remains scheduled. Fischer has expressed her desire to sing live for her fans and not lip-sync, and fans are hopeful that this final performance will be a fitting farewell.
In her autobiography, "Woher Wohin", published in 2018, Fischer shared her experiences and memories from her long and successful career. She thanked her fans for their loyalty over many years and for numerous wonderful moments, and expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to perform for them.
Manager Wollny did not rule out possible one or two smaller-scale performances by Fischer in the future, but for now, fans can only look back on the incredible legacy that Fischer has left behind. With a career spanning 55 years, Fischer has made an indelible mark on the world of Schlager music, and her absence will be felt for years to come.
