FBI carries out raid on former advisor Bolton, raising concerns among Trump critics
FBI Searches Home of Former Trump National Security Advisor John Bolton
In a surprising turn of events, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a search at the home of John Bolton, the former National Security Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump. The search, which took place in the U.S. state of Maryland near Washington, is reportedly part of an investigation into national security matters.
The investigation against Bolton was initiated by FBI Director Kash Patel, who ordered the search of Bolton's house and office as part of an inquiry into the alleged unauthorized handling and sharing of classified documents during Bolton's time as National Security Advisor.
The reason for the search remains unspecified, but it comes amid renewed criticism from Bolton towards Trump. In a post on the X platform, Bolton stated that Russia had not changed its goal of drawing Ukraine into a new Russian empire and that he saw no progress in the talks between Trump and Putin, despite continued meetings.
Bolton's recent criticism of Trump may have contributed to the FBI raid on his home. Some see the raid as a reaction to Bolton's repeated criticism of Trump, while others view it as a power display by the White House. Critics argue that the raid is an attempt to silence Bolton, given his damning portrayal of Trump in his tell-all book, "The Room Where It Happened," published in 2020.
Trump, for his part, denied knowing about the FBI raid on Bolton. However, it is known that Trump had the Secret Service protection for Bolton withdrawn shortly after the start of his second term and that the administration had previously tried unsuccessfully to stop the publication of Bolton's book. Trump also instructed U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to "do what needs to be done."
Television images showed FBI employees outside a house during the search, and CNN reported that FBI agents also targeted Bolton's office in Washington. Investigations are aimed at clarifying whether Bolton had illegally disclosed or possessed classified information.
Bolton served as National Security Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump during his first term (2017-2021). He resigned after about a year and a half in office amid a dispute with Trump.
This development is sure to add fuel to the ongoing political drama surrounding Trump and his administration. As more details emerge, the public will gain a clearer understanding of the events that led to the FBI search of Bolton's home.
